Ceramic Open Cell Foams Featuring Plasmonic Hybrid Metal Nanoparticles for In Situ SERS Monitoring of Catalytic Reactions

This work presents porous zirconia-toughened alumina ceramics functionalized with [email protected]/[email protected] core–shell nanoparticle (NP) for in situ monitoring of catalytic reactions via surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) which is augmented by the open cell foam structure ceramic support. In this respect, enables efficient light trapping and propagation onto coated surface, provides good accessibility catalyst, while particles are equipped a catalytically active shell plasmonic core SERS sensing. The metallic hybrid NPs synthesized Au-seed mediated method colloidally deposited matrix prepared polymer replica method. NP show enhancement factor up to 106, significantly higher than that non-porous samples. reaction demonstrated Pt-catalyzed reduction 4-nitrothiophenol 4-aminothiophenol, showing high specificity analysis reactants products. multifunctional material concept featuring ceramics-augmented activity could be extended beyond real-time, sensitive toward temperature reactions, photothermal catalysis, bioprocessing -sensing, green energy conversion, related applications.
